M.Phil. in Education (Teacher Educator Development)

Program Overview

The MPhil in Education (Teacher Educator Development) is a specialized graduate programme designed to prepare highly qualified teacher educators capable of strengthening teacher education institutions across Pakistan. The programme responds to the growing need for faculty who possess advanced pedagogical knowledge, research competence, and practical teaching experience required to deliver high-quality B.Ed. programmes. Graduates contribute directly to improving teacher preparation and educational quality nationwide.

Programme Outcomes

By graduation, the MPhil in Education (Teacher Educator Development) graduates will be:

• Demonstrate strong pedagogical content knowledge and the ability to design, deliver, and assess learner-centred instruction in their chosen specialization subject at the Elementary level.
• Demonstrate strong pedagogical content knowledge and the ability to design, deliver, and assess learner-centred instruction at the B.Ed. level, in their chosen specialization, as well as core courses.
• Critically reflect on their teaching practice, use classroom evidence to improve instruction, and engage in continuous professional learning and inquiry.
• Analyse curricula and design, adapt, and develop instructional materials aligned with state curriculum standards and SLOs.
• Demonstrate competence in educational research design and analysis, and conduct research on effective teaching practices at the school and B.Ed. level.

Scheme of Studies

1st Year

Only students with a prior B.Ed. teaching degree are eligible to enroll in electives as an alternate to practicum.

2nd Year

Bridging Programme

Applicants with sixteen years of education in a discipline other than Education are required to complete a Bridging Programme before enrolling in the MPhil in Education programme.

Eligibility Criteria

• Minimum sixteen years of schooling or 4-year education (minimum 126 credit hours) after HSSC / F.A. / F.Sc. / Grade 12 equivalent will be required for admission in the M.Phil. program. This 4-year education may be:
  • Bachelor of Education; or
  • BS in a non-education discipline that is aligned with the candidate’s preferred MPhil specialization (Languages, Science, Social Studies, and Mathematics).

Candidates with:

• B.Ed. degree will be required to have completed their HSSC / Grade 12 equivalent, in a group that is aligned with the candidate’s preferred MPhil specialization.
• Sixteen (16) years of education in a non-education discipline shall be required to complete deficiency courses (Bridging Programme) of minimum 18 credit hours prior to the start of the M.Phil programme.
• Minimum 1 year of work experience as a schoolteacher
• The Graduate Admission Test (GAT)-General conducted by the National Testing Service (NTS) or SITE’s own Graduate Admission Test with a minimum 50% cumulative score will be required for admission into MPhil.
• All candidates for the Class of 2029 must have a Karachi domicile certificate.
• Commitment to serve in a salaried contractual faculty position in a government B.Ed. college for a period of 3 years after graduation.

Applicants are required to submit HEC-attested educational documents and/or proof of 16 years of equivalence from the Higher Education Commission (HEC), if applicable. For clarification, please refer to the Teacher Education Roadmap.

In case of foreign qualifications, an Equivalence letter from HEC must be submitted with the application stating candidate’s eligibility for MPhil in  Education (Teacher Educator Development) programme.

Note for Candidates: Candidates are requested to ensure they meet application eligibility requirements before applying. These are listed in the programme brochure. Moreover, candidates are responsible for completing the application and other requirements according to the published instructions and time schedule.  

Admissions Process

Stage 1

Submission of online application according to the given eligibility criteria.

Stage 2

Candidates will be called for a test based on the application submitted, if they have not already taken the GAT-General test.

Stage 3

Shortlisted candidates will be required to submit a two-minute self-recorded video presenting their Statement of Purpose. The submitted videos will be used to further shortlist candidates for the interview.

Stage 4

Further shortlisted candidates will be required to appear for an interview.

Stage 5

Selected candidates shall be called for orientation and signing of the contract on campus.

Admission Test

The test will be conducted on-site. The Admission Test comprises two components: English Language and Quantitative Reasoning.

The English Language component evaluates a candidate’s competency in the English language. The Quantitative Reasoning component assesses problem-solving and logical thinking ability.

Those who submit a GAT–NTS result slip with at least 50% cumulative score, within the validity window, will be exempted from SITE’s Graduate Admission Test.

Career Pathways

All admitted students sign a 5-year agreement with Durbeen, in which Durbeen commits to fully subsidize a student’s 2-year M.Phil. degree program and in turn, students commit to teaching for 3 years in a Durbeen-assigned B.Ed. College in their respective districts. However, to avail this opportunity, students must graduate with a CGPA of at least 2.6/ 4.0.
