Program Overview

The MPhil in Education (Teacher Educator Development) is a specialized graduate programme designed to prepare highly qualified teacher educators capable of strengthening teacher education institutions across Pakistan. The programme responds to the growing need for faculty who possess advanced pedagogical knowledge, research competence, and practical teaching experience required to deliver high-quality B.Ed. programmes. Graduates contribute directly to improving teacher preparation and educational quality nationwide.

Programme Outcomes

By graduation, the MPhil in Education (Teacher Educator Development) graduates will be:

  • equipped to teach the K-8 school curriculum in their chosen specialization.
  • equipped to teach B.Ed. (Elementary) courses that are aligned with their chosen specialization.
  • able to work as curriculum developers and textbook writers.
  • able to conduct research on best teaching practices at the school and B.Ed. level.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Minimum sixteen years of schooling or 4-year education (minimum 126 credit hours) after HSSC / F.A. / F.Sc. / Grade 12 equivalent will be required for admission in the M.Phil. program.
  • This 4-year education may be:
    • Bachelor of Education; or
    • BS in a non-education discipline that is aligned with the candidate’s preferred MPhil specialization (Languages, Science, Social Studies, and Mathematics).
  • Candidates with:
    • B.Ed. degree will be required to have completed their HSSC / Grade 12 equivalent, in a group that is aligned with the candidate’s preferred MPhil specialization.
    • Sixteen (16) years of education in a non-education discipline shall be required to complete deficiency courses (Bridging Programme) of minimum 18 credit hours prior to the start of the M.Phil programme.
    • Minimum 1 year of work experience as a schoolteacher
    • The Graduate Admission Test (GAT)-General conducted by the National Testing Service (NTS) or SITE’s own Graduate Admission Test with a minimum 50% cumulative score will be required for admission into MPhil.
    • All candidates for the Class of 2029 must have a Karachi domicile certificate.
    • Commitment to serve in a salaried contractual faculty position in a government B.Ed. college for a period of 3 years after graduation.

NOTE: Applicants are required to submit HEC-attested educational documents and/or proof of 16 years of equivalence from the Higher Education Commission (HEC), if applicable.

Note: In case of foreign qualifications, an Equivalence letter from HEC must be submitted with the application stating candidate’s eligibility for MPhil in Education (Teacher Educator Development) programme.

Admissions Process

Stage 1

Submission of online application according to the given eligibility criteria.

Stage 2

Candidates will be called for a test based on the application submitted, if they have not already taken the GAT-General test.

Stage 3

Shortlisted candidates will be required to appear in an interview.

Stage 4

Selected candidates shall be called for orientation and signing of bond on campus.

Admission Test

The test will be conducted onsite. The Admission Test comprises two components: English Language and Quantitative Reasoning.

The English Language component evaluates a candidate’s competency in the English language. The Quantitative Reasoning component assesses problem-solving and logical thinking ability.

Those who submit a GAT–NTS result slip with at least 50% cumulative score, within the validity window, will be exempted from SITE’s Graduate Admission Test.

Career Pathways

Graduates enter a contractual public service placement as faculty members in the government B.Ed. colleges for three years following completion of the programme.
